Principal's Message
As the new principal of Butterfield Elementary it is my pleasure to welcome you back to the 2009-2010 school year. I am truly honored to serve as your principal. Butterfield has an incredible staff committed to the success of every student. I am delighted to be joining a school culture focused on student learning, a commitment to high expectations, innovation and collaboration. It is my intention to carry on these important traditions and practices. I hope that you have had the opportunity to spend some valuable time with your children relaxing and enjoying the summer. I have been working very hard this summer making sure your child will enjoy a successful and exciting experience at Butterfield. My goal is to create a positive school climate that maximizes instructional time for student learning, while developing strong social and emotional characteristics in a safe environment. I would like to take this opportunity to share information about my background so we can begin to get to know each other a little better. I attained my bachelor's degree in liberal arts and elementary education from California State University San Bernardino. From there, I began my professional career in Ontario with the Mountain View School District, where I worked for 14 years. During my tenure I taught first, second, third and fifth grades, and served as an Assistant Principal and Summer School principal. While teaching, I earned my master's degree in Educational Administration from Chapman University. I have served for three years as an assistant principal here in Moreno Valley at Edgemont, TownGate and La Jolla Elementary Schools. I look forward to meeting all of the students and families to learn more about the unique strengths, traditions and practices of Butterfield. These meeting and conversations are essential to the discovery of what makes Butterfield such a special place for children to learn. With my presence out on the campus, I believe you will find me to be open, honest, caring and accessible. Communication is crucial to a successful home/school partnership. I have become familiar with ParentLink, a web-based phone system that allows me to keep you up to date on important school issues and events. Please expect weekly messages from me on Friday evenings at 6pm. The partnership between home and school is crucial to the success of each child. I encourage you to become involved in school activities. Involvement may include volunteering in the classroom, attending school functions, becoming part of the Booster's Club, ELAC and/or School Site Council Committee. Your time and commitment are greatly valued. I look forward to getting to know you and your children along with the excitement and success of the new school year! I look forward to meeting you, Mrs. Tia May
